Firefighters who protected
Moorpark College to be saluted

During its board meeting at 7 p.m. Tues., Nov. 18 in the Campus Center of Moorpark College, the Ventura County Community College District Board of Trustees will honor the firefighters "who defended and saved Moorpark College from the Simi wildfire of Oct. 25-28."

A board resolution will be presented to a representative from the Ventura County Fire Department on behalf of those from the four entities that fought the fire. The other three groups were the Los Angeles City Fire Department, County of Los Angeles Fire Department and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Although the Simi wildfire burned all around the north and east side of Campus Road, the flames were stopped at the curbs of the parking lot. No student or staff member was injured and there was no structural damage to any permanent or temporary building.

"Our college is fortunate to have escaped structural damage from the wildfires. Our good fortune is due in part to luck, hard work, the kindness of our neighbors and the efforts of our firefighters," said Eva Conrad, president of the college.

Recognition will also be made at 6:30 p.m. Sat., Nov. 15 in Griffin Stadium when Moorpark College will host a community celebration followed by the final Raider home football game of the season versus College of the Canyons.

"We have designated this game as a thank you celebration for both our campus community and our local firefighters," said Conrad. Firefighters will be admitted free with photo identification. For more information, call: (805) 378-1407.
