HEAVENLY TOWER-Six months ago at a City Council meeting, some residents objected to the measurements and look of the new steeple planned for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Collins Road and East Benwood Drive. The church spire would become the tallest structure in Moorpark. Some were concerned that it would be an eyesore. The building is 33-feet tall and the total measurement with the steeple is 69 feet. The spire has no lights, as agreed in the permit, even though the congregation had never planned to light it. One can see the spire from a short distance around the church. Neighbors said it "looks good" and it "wasn't what they expected." Due to the high winds and for the safety of the workers, construction took two days. The steeple weighes 18,000 pounds. A company based in Utah completed the installation in one hour.
