Support Moorpark’s Academic Decathletes
The Moorpark Academic Decathlon Team is making its 10th bid to win the Ventura County title and qualify for the state title in March 2007.

California’s decathlon program is among the most competitive in the United States. State teams have won the U.S. Academic Decathlon 13 times. Moorpark’s team has won the national title twice, most recently in 2003.

Much credit goes to the dedication of the students themselves, Coach Larry Jones and the support of the Moorpark community.

What the team needs now is your financial help. Contributions covering the cost of meals, dry cleaning and study materials are needed. All contributions are tax deductible, and if your check is postmarked before Jan. 1, it will count against your 2006 taxes.

Also, volunteers are needed to help with the dress rehearsal judging of speeches and interviews, which are two important decathlon events.

Remember that most of the students participating in the Academic Decathlon are home-grown Moorpark youth. Several of them have watched their older brothers and sisters compete.

The current team is proud to continue the Moorpark winning tradition and hopes to advance to the state finals once again. The ultimate target is the national championship in Honolulu, Hawaii.
