Authorities respond to street fight

Moorpark police, aided by deputies from Camarillo and Thousand Oaks, dispersed about 80 people fighting in the street in the 200 block of Dorothy Avenue in downtown Moorpark at about 8 p.m. last Saturday.

"There were two large parties going on at two different houses on the same street and the groups started to fight, so authorities were called," said Sr. Dep. Ed Tumbleson of the Moorpark Police Department.

One individual was arrested for public intoxication and one person was arrested for fighting in public.

Authorities also took an assault with a deadly weapon report because a victim was hit in the head with a rock and was kicked, the deputy said.

An exchange of words between party guests on the street seemed to have prompted the fight, but authorities weren't sure whether the incident was gang-related, Tumbleson said.

According to a witness, the deputies had to use batons and pepper spray to subdue those involved in the fight.

Tumbleson said about 10 units responded and deputies wore helmets when they arrived on the scene because it looked like a riot situation.
