BAD SLAM- Hwy. 118 closed twice on Jan. 18 due to separate traffic accidents. Two big rigs collided and spilled a load of sand just west of Balcom Canyon, causing the road to shut down from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The highway was closed again at 5 p.m. after a collision between a vehicle and a truck just east of the railroad crossing at Mejeco Creek. A black Nissan, driven by a Moorpark resident, was traveling east. The driver crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on with a westbound red truck driven by a Simi Valley resident. Both drivers sustained severe-to-moderate injuries and were transported to Simi Valley Hospital, according to officers.
