Mikos reappointed to help needy in Ventura County

Roseann Mikos
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors reappointed Moorpark Councilmember Roseann Mikos to the Community Action of Ventura County board on Tuesday. The organization was formerly known as the Commission on Human Concerns.

Mikos has been on the commission since 2001 and is a past chair and a current member of the executive committee, County Supervisor Peter Foy said.

"She has several years of experience and we believe Ms. Mikos will continue to be an asset on that board," he said.

The commission assists lowincome, disadvantaged and at-risk families and individuals who are seeking to become self-sufficient. It offers programs, services, counseling and outreach to reduce poverty and homelessness among local people, including youth and seniors.

Mikos recently met with Foy to brief him on what the agency does.

"He was very interested in the work we're doing," she said. "I'm pleased that he's reappointed me."

Community Action recently purchased the Goldberg House, a singlefamily residence in downtown Ventura where support services and affordable housing are provided for several people who were formerly homeless.

The organization also maintains a satellite office at the site. A full-time staff member does intake and provides food and clothing distribution as well as referrals to eligible low-income residents seeking help to become selfsufficient, said Mikos.

"We're trying to help more people," she said.
