School board praises educators

SYLVIE BELMOND/Acorn Newspapers BIDDING FAREWELL- From left, Tony Prado, Jackie Welter, Kathy Gillespie and Gabino Aguirre are recognized by the Moorpark Unified School District Board of Education on Tuesday for decades of service to local schools. The group will retire when the school year ends in June. Prado has taught history and geography at Moorpark High School for 33 years. Welter, a fifthgrade teacher at Arroyo West Elementary School, is known for her innovative and comprehensive teaching techniques. Gillespie, secretary for the Special Education Department at the district office, has offered support to students, parents and teachers. Aguirre, who served as principal for Community High School for 20 years, has helped many students overcome obstacles during his career as counselor and principal.
