Highway patrol honored for work in stopping DUIs

Eight California Highway Patrol officers from the Moorpark area were honored recently at an "Avoid the 14 in Ventura County" awards banquet.

Officers Wayne Goral and Sam Clarkson led all officers in Ventura County with nine arrests each for driving under the influence from Dec. 15, 2006 through Jan. 1, 2007.

Officers Paul Varner and John McIntosh had six DUI arrests each. Officers Adam Woods, John Brock, Jeremy Gray and Rudy Alcantar had five arrests each in the same time frame.

The officers make up the "graveyard" shift for the CHP Moorpark area.

Area Capt. Cliff Williams Jr. said he was proud of his officers for being the top law enforcement officials in apprehending the most dangerous drivers in the county.
