Girl Scouts earn Silver Awards

Six Girl Scouts of Troop 166 were presented with Silver Awards, the highest honor in Girl Scouting, on May 20 during a family celebration brunch at the Corner Bakery Restaurant in Moorpark. The Scouts are Tyler Reynolds, Kimberly Kuchinka, Kelly Raba, Samantha Brandt, Ashley Scott, and Jamie Lane. All the girls are freshmen at Moorpark High School. The troop leader is Kristine Reynolds. For their Silver Award project, the girls spent more than 40 hours each to sew more than 300 "cool ties" which were sent to the soldiers fighting overseas. The "cool ties" are meant to be soaked in water and then worn by the soldiers around their necks to help keep them cool in the hot desert.
