Scouts ask for old flags to retire

One of the points of the Scout Law is "loyalty," which includes loyalty to country. For many years now, my Scout troop has had the honor of helping the American Legion with its ceremonies each Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

This Memorial Day, as usual, we will be working with them again. At 8 a.m., the troop will help change the flags at the Veterans Memorial next to the Grinder Restaurant. At 10 a.m., we will help with the ceremony at Poindexter Park. Both locations are in Moorpark.

After the ceremony at 10 a.m., my troop will perform a flag retirement ceremony. The public is invited to bring any American flags which are no longer serviceable to the 10 a.m. ceremony. We will be pleased to properly retire those flags.
