Sports training center opens The Sports Performance Institute, a sports performance training center, recently opened in Moorpark. The center specializes in optimal performance training for athletes. SPi works with young athletes- youth to college in all sports categories, from football to hockey players- and any athlete from any sport in between. The center offers a variety of performance training programs, including Basic for ages 7 to 11, Plus for ages 11 to 15 and Elite for ages 16 and up. The SPi performance basic training focuses on proper technique, movement skills and motor skills. The performance plus training incorporates integrated strength with speed, agility and quickness drills. The personal training program is a compilation of functional stability, core stabilization, flexibility, explosiveness, balance and strength exercises. In addition, for the active adult private personal training, semiprivate personal training, group training and boot camps are offered. The staff comprises sports performance trainers, strength and conditioning specialists, nutritionist/dietician, massage therapists and sports skills coaches. "All of our programs are designed with stabilization, strength and power in mind. This philosophy positions injury prevention as our primary focus and performance second," said Ty Twine, company founder. "So many athletes, if not trained properly, endure career-ending injuries because injury prevention and proper technique was not their focus." Twine has a bachelor's degree in business from California Lutheran University, with a minor in sports coaching. He is a certified personal trainer and certified speed, agility and quickness trainer. He has more than six years of one-on-one personal training, small group and team performance training. Twine has local varsity coaching experience in football, basketball and track and field at both Moorpark and Port Hueneme high schools.
