'Hair' lets the sun shine in at Simi arts center

The Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center presents a 40th anniversary production of "Hair: The American Tribal Love Rock Musical" from June 2 through July 8 at 3050 Los Angeles Ave.

Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday.

The show is described as "the tribe is rebelling. American youth are screaming out against The Establishment, Vietnam, segregation and sexual rigidity. 'Hair,' the iconic '60s musical, is part pop, part rock, part nostalgia and total visual delight. Recapture your spirit of hope in a strife-torn world."

The musical is directed by Fred Helsel, with musical direction by Gary Poirot, choreography by Tracy Silver and vocal direction by Matthew Park. Book and lyrics are by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, with music by Galt MacDermott.

This production of "Hair" features a cast of 19 plus a live orchestra. In the cast are Nick Ferguson, Aaron Strange, Elizabeth Stockton, Dawn Notagiacomo, Andi Rhoads, Jacob Nixon, Dionne Nicole, Seth Kamenow, Alexandra Lastort, Sam Atkin, Elizabeth Cross, Sarah Goodwin, Elissa Wagner, Bonnie Sludikoff, Renee Smith, Amanda Lastort, Peter Krause and Ana Maria Saaverdra.

The orchestra is directed by Gary Poirot.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $16 for seniors and students. Due to mature themes and subject matter, "Hair" is recommended for ages 15 and above.
