Celebrate Independence Day early in Moorpark

The city of Moorpark will present the annual Third of July Fireworks Extravaganza on Tues., July 3 at Arroyo Vista Community Park, 4550 Tierra Rejada Road.

Doors open at 3:45 p.m., and activities begin at 4 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m. Admission is $2.

Family friendly entertainment will be presented throughout the event. Musical entertainment includes the L.A. Rhythm Kings, with an eclectic array of dance music, classic rock 'n' roll and jazz, and the seven-piece band Starfire.

The event will feature strolling historical characters, a vintage plane fly-over by the Commemorative Air Force and presentation of the American flag by the Ventura County Sheriff 's Department.

Patriotic prizes will be awarded at family games such as gunny sack races and tug of war. There will be climbing walls, bounce tents, obstacle courses, slides, pony rides, carnival games and more.

Two food courts will offer tri-tip, chicken, tamales, hot dogs, pizza, kettle corn, shaved ice and funnel cake.

Attendees may bring picnic baskets and lawn seating. Alcohol, pets and fireworks are not permitted.
