Active Adult Programs

The Moorpark Active Adult Center presents the following activities for seniors this month.

Events require a reservation and will meet at 799 Moorpark Ave. unless otherwise noted. Programs are free unless a donation is requested.

+The photography contest is open to adults ages 55 and up.

Categories are nature/landscape, animals/pets, "Moorpark Moments," candid kids and around the world. Previous year's winners cannot re-enter the same photo if the picture won a prize. Entrants must have taken the photos and may enter up to three photos, each in a different category.

First-, second- and third-place winners in each category will each receive a ribbon. Entries are due by 4 p.m. Fri., July 13. Winners will be announced at the birthday luncheon on Wed., July 25. Call the center for submission rules.

+Registration forms for Moorpark's Senior Games VIII will be accepted starting Mon., July 9 at the center.

The games will offer competition in 16 events for ages 55 and up and run from Sept. 19 through Oct. 19. Sign-ups end Fri., Sept. 7.

Sports include bocce ball, bowling, darts, golf, horseshoes, overthe-line softball, poker walk, bingo, bunko, bridge and duplicate bridge, mah jongg, pinochle, poker and table tennis.

+An AARP Mature Driver class will be offered from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Tues. and Wed., July 10 and 11 in the Citrus Room at City Hall, adjacent to the center. Class cost is $10.

Qualified course graduates ages 50 and up can qualify for a discount on auto insurance premiums. Registrants must attend both days to receive class certification.
