Somis radio host guides listeners on spiritual quests

When calling into the Somisbased Internet radio show "Divine Journeys," listener Ben Weir didn't know what to expect. He enjoyed hearing the gentle voice of the host, Karen Anderson, and wanted to see if she could offer him some advice.

Weir, a Toronto resident, was facing an impending custody case and felt his life was spiraling out of control. Finding Anderson's show on a list of related links on line provided Weir relief.

"At the time I was smacked in the face with a bunch of weird things," Weir said. "It sparked my interest to look at all properties in relation to our universe."

Eventually, Weir found serenity in the life coaching skills of Anderson, who offers holistic guidance to her clients.

"Physical, mental and spiritual elements are connected," Anderson said. "You can't heal the body until you heal the mind and your thoughts."

Anderson's practice defines a divine journey as heavenly essence and earthly presence coming together to create a unique experience.

Although hesitant to use the word "psychic," Anderson agrees her work involves believing in what cannot be seen.

"I do not discount traditional medicine, but it can go handinhand with so many other things," Anderson said. "All kinds of different threads can make a beautiful tapestry if you weave them altogether."

Ten years ago, something personal happened which left Anderson in a mindset where she could no longer discount the existence of angels. Since then, she has opened a practice in Somis, offering intuitive spiritual counseling. Not just fluffy-winged beings, angels are a real, benevolent force, Anderson said.

Using the expertise of psychologists to astrologists, Anderson passes the word about her belief in angels during her weekly radio show. Spiritual and metaphysical topics discussed are on the show.

Skeptics abound, but naysayers are challenged to redirect their attention to focus on positive energy rather than negative.

A guest speaker on Anderson's show, astrologist and feng shui expert Alice Imoue of Honolulu, Hawaii, said connecting to angels is no different than experiencing an inspirational thought.

It's good to "find someone who can offer a space to feel good about what's going on and wake up to a new possibility," Imoue said.

Through her love and enthusiasm, Anderson has the ability to connect to others and provide a number of benefits, Imoue said.

"She's a receiver, similar to a radio receiver," Imoue said. "And it's the message that's important, not just the messenger."

During her recent show on July 2, Anderson explained paths which people can follow to achieve forgiveness during conflict.

"Envision a hot air balloon weighed down by sandbags to keep them on the ground before they're ready to take flight. Envision yourself ready to take off into a new destination, but you cannot because there are sandbags holding you down. If you were to cut those sandbags, you're able to take off, feel free and fly above all the perceived pain."

"Divine Journeys with Karen Anderson" can be heard every Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. on www.contacttalkradio.com. Anderson's practice, Divine Journeys Healing Arts Center, is in Somis.
