Disagrees with reader's letter

A July 27 letter to the editor by Mr. Risley describes an Executive Order as giving the president "the right to confiscate your property if you actively oppose the war in Iraq."

Reading the executive order, there is no reference to opposition, protest, disagreement, dissent or any other words normally associated with legitimate discourse.

Instead, the order refers to those who "commit acts of violence" or those who "provide material aid" to those who commit acts of violence- clearly meaning terrorists and their direct supporters.

Either Mr. Risley believes acts of violence are protected under the First Amendment or his claims are grossly exaggerated. Neither position moves our country forward. Matt Becker Moorpark
