A solution to the war

There is a simple solution to the occupation of Iraq. After all the lies and propaganda, the simple fact and real reason we are there is to provide muscle for multi-national corporate control of the oil fields. Adding insult to injury, the invoice has been passed on to the American citizen.

I propose a simple plan for nearly immediate withdrawal of all United States troops from Iraq. Sell the occupation to its primary beneficiaries, the oil companies, those entities profiting handsomely from this ongoing abuse of our military and national integrity.

Sell the permanent military bases, both built and under construction, to those interested corporations. Let them directly buy military hardware and support from "defense" firms and war service industries. Let them take over the contracts from the security corporations operating in Iraq, currently at levels nearly as prevalent as our nation's troops.

Let them directly employ mercenaries, to maintain the desired security, policing, occupation and death squad functions. Let them have control and with it the direct responsibility for the ongoing war crimes and those yet to be committed.

In last week's CBS poll, 35 percent of us want some, and an additional 30 percent want all of our troops out of Iraq. It's a win/win strategy except for the people that used to be Iraqi. Just remember, we were never there for democracy or to bring ice cream to the desert.

Please, call your representatives. Demand representation. It is time to remove the mask of American interest from this bloody occupation and put the corporate face up front where it belongs. Thomas Scott Nelson Moorpark
