At The Library

September is Library Card Sign-up Month. The Moorpark City Library joins the American Library Association and libraries across the country to remind parents that a library card is the most important school supply of all.

Library cards are free to all residents of California and, in most cases, borrowing privileges are granted on the spot. Adults need to present proof of identification such as a state driver's license and proof of residency with a current address. Children must be able to print their own name and have a parent or guardian's signature.

Studies show that children who are read to at home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue using the library as a source of lifetime learning and enjoyment.

A variety of programs are offered, including a preschool story time from 10:30 to 11 a.m. most Thursdays, the Brainfuse online homework help system for youths in grades three through 12 between 1 to 10 p.m. daily, Family Story Time on Sunday afternoon starting in October and teen programs. For a schedule, check at the library or city hall

The Moorpark City Library has books, magazines, newspapers, audio and videotapes and DVDs. The librarians can recommend materials suitable for various ages and interest.

The library also provides computers with Internet access which may be reserved with a library card for one hour per day, and online access to thousands of magazine and journal articles via the InfoTrac databases.
