Appreciation for Country Days volunteers
The theme for this year's annual city event is "Country Days Goes Hollywood." The festivities take place on High Street tomorrow, Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Live music will play on two stages throughout the day. You can enjoy great food and visit booths representing local businesses, service clubs, churches and sports groups. The day is a celebration of downhome Americana.

Country Days has, for years, been produced by a dedicated crew of civic-minded volunteers.

We thank those who have put their blood, sweat and tears into getting this celebration together. Most people who attend Country Days seldom think about those who worked hard to pull the whole shoot-and-shebang together. It is, for the most part, a thankless job.

Big thanks go to the organizing committee chairman, Debbie Heaslip. Helping her is her daughter and right-hand person, Meranda Heaslop.

JoAnn and Charlie Kauffmann organized the parade.

Donya Krystkowiak was the Country Days secretary, and was responsible for getting super pricing on the trophies.

Teresa Barry recruited sponsors and the event Grand Marshal Jason Scheff, lead singer from the rock group Chicago.

Mark Bailey took control of the stages and recruited all the bands.

Tom Piehn handled for the Country Days website, and took care of all e-mail communications.

John Brand of the city of Moorpark was key liaison for the city, insuring that all permits moved through the proper channels in a smooth manner.

Jim Carpenter supervised the wireless communications, so everyone can stay in touch. He also set up all connections with the police department.

L.J. Stevens helped to orchestrate the red carpet treatment for the VIPs.

Craig Smith is the police department liaison in charge of security and for making sure the Metrolink lot is clear on Saturday.

Bob Mitchell coordinated distribution of the hay bales and decorations.

Jim Stueck wrote the checks and Mike Wessner handled legal matters, making sure everybody is in compliance.

To all of you, a heapin' helpin' of gratitude from your community. Thanks for making Country Days such a memorable event.
