Girls can learn to ride like the wind

Goodenough Farms Horse Spa has introduced a girlsonly training program, "Horse Crazy vs. Boy Crazy," which helps girls to form healthy attachments while learning to ride and care for horses.

The Horse Crazy Program uses school horses and professional trainers to teach the girls to ride and care for horses in an initial 3 to 4week program. Lessons are taught in afterschool and weekend sessions in Moorpark and Fillmore.

Girls who want to go on to show or compete horses are encouraged to do so in either Western or English riding disciplines.

"We help girls form healthy attachments with horses through our training programs in riding and healthy horse management at our Fillmore and Moorpark locations. We focus on girls' seemingly natural interest in horses and build a program that's fun and healthy for both the girls and the horses. In this climate our program can be enjoyed year-round," said Wendy P. Basil, co-owner of Goodenough Farms Horse Spa and a clinical psychologist.

The cost ranges from $50 to $60 per lesson, with a special program price for five lessons at the price of four.
