Car chase ends in Moorpark Authorities arrested a 16 year-old female driver and one of her passengers following a car pursuit on Highway 118 Tuesday night. The juvenile was driving a dark-colored Mitsubishi with paper plates that had been reported stolen, said authorities. She was accompanied by two adult males. The incident began in Camarillo when the vehicle made a left turn from a right turn lane as it exiting the 101 Freeway at Central Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. California Highway Patrol officers tried to stop the car to issue a citation for the traffic violation but the driver didn't yield, said Shawna Davison, spokesperson for the Ventura County CHP which initiated the pursuit. She drove east on to the rural highway heading to Moorpark and then turned into a residential cul-de-sac on Justine Court where neighbors reported that they were awaken by sirens and screeching tires at about midnight. `One of the two passengers, Robert Valenzuela of Oxnard tried to run away but he was quickly caught by officers. The young driver was arrested and the other passenger was released, according to Davison. The details of the incident are still under investigation, she said. - Sylvie Belmond |
