Moorpark should display flags Today I was a judge at the Moorpark Country Days parade. The national anthem was sung, but there was no flag to salute. No flags lined the streets of High Street, Los Angeles Avenue, Spring Road, Tierra Rejada Road. Where are the flags? Simi Valley and Santa Paula line their streets with the American flag; why can't Moorpark? Every day our young people are being slaughtered in the Middle East. It doesn't matter how you feel about this situation; what matters is how you feel about America. America is home to over 300 million people. This country offers freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of worship, freedom to come and go as you wish . . . freedom. Our ancestors have fought and died for those freedoms we take for granted, just as our military personnel does today. I have written at least two letters to the mayor asking why we do not have flags in Moorpark, but no response has been forthcoming. I challenge the Moorpark City Council to start a program right now putting flags on every one of the streetlights in this town. Be proud of your America, my fellow Moorpark residents. Call the City Council and tell them you will adopt a flag for a street light if they will just make sure it is maintained by the city. Yvonne DiFrancesco Moorpark |
