Ghost walk will raise the dead on High Street

Dream On TheaterWorks will present the fourth annual Historic Haunts of High Street 2007, a frightful but family friendly walking tour, on Sat. and Sun., Oct. 27 and 28.

The walks begin and conclude at the Secret Garden Restaurant, 255 E. High St., Moorpark. Tours leave at approximately 7 and 8 p.m.

This spirited tour features the legends of Moorpark's past as told by Ghostly Guides who escort guests down the street. Guests are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes.

New this year is the presentation of the results of a full paranormal investigation performed on High Street by the Channel Islands Ghost Trackers two weeks before the event. Dream On TheaterWorks community volunteers will serve as Ghostly Reporters of their findings. The Ghost Trackers will display the equipment used in the investigations and answer guests' questions.

Event proceeds will benefit Dream On TheaterWorks, which is planning to build a communitydriven organization with opportunities for residents to learn, teach, perform and enjoy the arts, regardless of experience or income level.

Old High Street has a rich, sometimes mysterious history. Tour writers Rosemary Moffat and Aletheia Regier have gathered numerous accounts of local High Street hauntings as told by generations of Moorpark residents and High Street merchants.

The stories include the spirit of an old movie legend, the Kissing Lady Ghost and the Ghost of the Staircase. The old theater, now the High Street Arts Center, is considered to be one of the most haunted buildings in Ventura County.

Tickets are $12 adults, $9 seniors and students, and $5 children five and under.
