Blanket drive for American Indians
New toys, school supplies, clothing also accepted

Redbird's 2007 toy, school supplies and blanket drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., Dec. 1 at a new location, Simi Valley Library Community Room, 2969 Tapo Canyon Road.

Redbird is gathering new toys, blankets, clothing and school supplies to donate to Native American families and communities this holiday season.

Admission to the event is a new toy, school supply, warm blanket or clothing item. Lightweight blankets are recommended as they are easier to ship than heavy blankets.

Because of both the fires and the continued lack of funding for basic necessities on reservations such as Pine Ridge, the recipients of the donations will be determined by need.

Drum and flute players are invited to participate in the toy drive,a ndallpeopleare welcome. A native dance exhibition is planned. The presence of other nonprofit groups is welcomed.

Food will be served, and potluck contributions will be accepted.
