Some residents owed unclaimed refunds

The Internal Revenue Service is looking for 14 Moorpark taxpayers who are due refund checks that total more than $7,980 after those checks were returned as undeliverable.

The refund checks average $570.16, and can be claimed as soon as the taxpayers update their addresses with the IRS.

The persons are Juan and Maria J. Marti Arias-Panduro, Ted R. Doupe, Samir I. El Rayes, Bradley D. Floyd, Charisse Gibson, Blanca E. Guzman, Benito Jimenez, Jesus and Jessica Venegas Martinez, Mayra L. Mendoza, Erica J. Presnail, Alexander and K. Parrovechio Reimbold, Esther Roman, Chere A. Schoffstall and Dolores Vasquez De Mendoza.

Checks are returned to the IRS if a taxpayer moves without notifying the IRS or the U.S. Postal Service. This year, a total of 303 Ventura County taxpayers are owed refund checks worth more than $287,000.

The "Where's My Refund?" tool at www.irs.gov lets taxpayers check the status of their refunds. Taxpayers with undeliverable checks can update their addresses using "Where's My Refund?"

Those who do not have access to the Internet can call IRS at (800) 829-1954 to update their address.

A taxpayer can also ensure the IRS has the correct address by filing "Form 8822, Change of Address." The form can be downloaded from www.IRS.gov or requested by calling (800) 8293676.

Taxpayers are encouraged to sign up for direct deposit which is available for filers of both paper and electronic returns.
