New West Symphony selects leadership

The New West Symphony has announced the appointment of Leonard Linton of Thousand Oaks as president of the board of directors and Neil Sunkin as treasurer.

Linton succeeds outgoing president Rick Newberger, who is concluding five years as president. Miriam Chase Wille continues to serve as secretary.

"I'm honored to be entrusted with the leadership of the New West Symphony as we enter our 13th season," Linton said. "The New West is one of the most significant cultural assets in our region. My goal for the symphony over the next two years is to build on the new regional structure recently implemented as we grow our audiences in our three venues, nurture our community relationships and develop new relationships."

Linton has been a member of the board of directors for seven years and previously served as treasurer and president-elect for the symphony. He is president of 1st Nationwide Resources, a collections and customer service company in Camarillo.

Sunkin is a practicing attorney in Santa Monica and a resident of Woodland Hills.

"I'm looking forward to working with my board colleagues as we plan and administer the finances of the symphony," Sunkin said. "We have exciting plans and goals that our board is very engaged with and working to achieve this year. Financing a professional regional symphony orchestra is a large task, and I'm committed to helping the regional boards in achieving our goals."

New local directors recently elected to the board include Michael Edelstein and Bob Eichelberger of Westlake Village, and James Holton, William and Mary Little, and Norman Nagel, all of Camarillo.

The New West Symphony performs in Oxnard, Thousand Oaks and Santa Monica with 80 professional musicians under the direction of maestro Boris Brott.
