Preparedness training to start
Applications are being ac- cepted from Moorpark residents for Community Emergency Response Team training.

The seven training sessions will take place at the Moorpark Community Center Citrus Room, 799 Moorpark Ave.

The classes are six weekday evenings from 7 to 9:30 Wed., Jan. 16 through 30, and Tues., Feb. 12 through 26. There is a final disaster drill on Saturday morning, March 1.

The course is free of charge. Anyone aged 18 or older who lives or works in the Moorpark area is eligible to attend.

The CERT program is an emergency preparedness program supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. CERT is an opportunity for residents and members of the business community to learn basic skills to save lives and protect property in the aftermath of a major disaster, when emergency services are not immediately available.

People who go through CERT training will have a better understanding of the potential threats to their home, workplace and community. They learn how to take the right steps to lessen the effects of these hazards. If a disaster happens, CERT members can apply their training to give support until help arrives.

The class will be presented by two local Ventura County Fire Department fire fighters in conjunction with the city of Moorpark Emergency Management program and the Ventura County Fire Department.

For more information and a registration form, call John Brand at (805) 5176248 or email jbrand@ci.moorpark.ca.us.

Applications can be picked up at Moorpark City Hall, 799 Moorpark Ave., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and also downloaded at www.ci.moorpark.ca.us.
