Active Adult Programs

The Moorpark Active Adult Center presents the following activities for seniors this month.

Events require a reservation and will meet at 799 Moorpark Ave. unless otherwise noted. Programs are free unless a donation is requested.

•Ventura County Public Health offers free health assessments for ages 55 and up. A public health nurse will be at the center from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Tues., Jan. 15 to provide free health assessments by appointment only. The screening includes cholesterol, blood sugar and anemia testing.

•Mayor Patrick Hunter will be at the center at 9:30 a.m. Fri., Jan. 25 to discuss current city news and plans for the year. A question and answer time will follow the talk. Light refreshments will be served.

•Gretchen Hoshida teaches how to present photos and mementos in scrapbooks from 10 to 11:30 a.m. starting Fri., Jan. 25 and continuing weekly. Most supplies are provided although participants may bring an album to later classes.

•The kick-off luncheon for the annual Walking Cross Country Imaginary Walk for Fitness will be at 11:45 a.m. Fri., Jan. 25.

In this program, participants earn "miles" by performing activities such as gardening, walking, stationary bicycle/treadmill, dancing, cleaning, arthritis exercise, chair exercises, sports, tai chi and more.

"Miles" are tracked in a log and those who earn the equivalent of halfway or more to the goal by April 18 are eligible for special prize drawings. This year's goal is 1,349.5 "miles" to the capitol in Washington, D.C.
