Teacher of the Year nominations open

Teachers' Insurance Plan has opened nominations for the California 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year Award of $1,000 to the winner and $500 to that teacher's school.

The state winner will be eligible for the National TOTY Award which includes special recognition and a $2,500 travel certificate.

Teachers, students and parents can nominate any of the state's accredited teachers. Nominations should include a statement in 250 words or less why this teacher deserves the honor. Nominees will be judged on their ability to motivate students, special talents and their contribution to school, students or the educational community.

Winners will be announced at the state of the next school year.
