Police recover stolen goods
      Three Moorpark adults and two juveniles were recently arrested for allegedly possessing stolen items taken from vehicles parked in Moorpark and Thousand Oaks over the past few weeks. Detectives also recovered a stolen car parked on the side of the house of one of the suspects.

Man arrested for sex crimes

      Authorities arrested a 35yearold Moorpark resident on Feb. 26 and charged him with several felonies involving lewd acts upon a child and unlawful sexual intercourse. Samuel Castro allegedly befriended the 15-year-old victim at a social gathering about a year ago.

Businessman indicted for tax evasion

      His students might be surprised to know that outside of Mesa Verde Middle School in Moorpark teacher Matt Purkiss and his family are eskrima champions. A martial arts form from the Philippines, eskrima uses sticks, not swords, to fight.

Rotarians strive to wipe out polio

      A group of nine Rotary ambassadors representing several local clubs traveled to India last month on a goodwill mission to support the organization's efforts to wipe out a crippling disease. In 1985, Rotary International made it their mission to eradicate polio.
