Academic decathletes make the community proud
Hearty congratulations to the members of Moorpark High School's 2008 Academic Decathlon Team. These young people, through their hard work and tenacity, have brought pride to our community and recognition to our city in nationwide headlines.

For hours of study, travel and overall selflessness, the Moorpark Acorn would like to personally thank Christie Calle, Anaamika Campeau, Justine Levan, Kris Sankaran, Paul Watanabe, Colin Calle, Angela Chen, Jonah Buck, Chrissa Rutkai and their fearless leader, Larry Jones.

Taking the state championship was an extraordinary feat, but to sweeten the victory, these committed individuals broke a record by achieving a total score higher than that of any previous decathlon team.

With fires, floods and eminent domain battles the city of Moorpark has had its ups and downs. It's refreshing to stop and realize that all we residents work for- superior education for our kids, clean and decent neighborhoods for them to live in, arts and sports programs that teach culture and teamwork- is paying off in a big way.

The support of parents, teachers and school officials is also important. To all those who played even a small part in this fantastic win- well done!
