City library sponsors illustration contest
Public can view entries during arts festival

The Moorpark City Library will sponsor a Young Illustrator Contest for children and teens ages 2 through 18 for the Moorpark Arts Festival on Sun., May 4.

Participants will choose their favorite book and then create an illustration for a book cover that best expresses the theme, characters and scenes of the story.

Those who want to participate but are not sure how to begin may attend a Young Illustrator Seminar from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tues., April 1 at the library, 699 Moorpark Ave. The workshop will present tips on how to create the artwork.

The deadline for entries is Mon., April 28. Entry forms will be available after April 1 at the library and online at www .moorparkartsfestival.com.

All entries will be displayed in the library April 30 through May 4. Artwork will be judged in five age-group categories, with prizes given in each category. The winners will also be considered as cover art for a library reading list.

Other library activities during the arts festival on May 4 include a visit from Bruce Hartman, creator of Nickelodeon's "Fairly OddParents"; a Moorpark 25th anniversary birthday cake; and storytelling and read-alouds at noon, 2, 3 and 4 p.m.
