Naval base contracts for gate guards

Homeland Security Solutions Inc., based in Virginia, has been selected to provide contract gate guard services for Naval Base Ventura County.

Homeland Security Solutions Inc. began services on Tues., March 25 as a subcontractor to the prime contractor, Chugach Alaska Corp. They provide guards at all open entry gates at both the Port Hueneme and Point Mugu bases.

Homeland Security Solutions takes over for the former subcontractor, USProtect of Maryland, which has filed for bankruptcy. USProtect provided security services for a number of government facilities. All former USProtect guards working at Naval Base Ventura County, with the exception of two, have been rehired by HSSI.

The Department of Labor is developing a payment plan for all affected employees of USProtect. Resolution is complex as all the funding provided to USProtect by companies who contracted with them, including the Navy, has been consolidated by the Department of Labor.

Naval Base Ventura County has worked with the Department of Labor to resolve the issue by providing them with all contracting, time and attendance records during USProtect's tenure. Naval Base Ventura County has been communicating with the guard employees and advising them about the current status, and also engaged with Chugach and the Department of Labor to bring about a quick conclusion.
