How to be safe at the beach

Summer is rapidly approaching and with it comes an increase in the number of visitors to the county's beaches. Whether you're camping, spending the day or just stopping for a short visit, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office offers the following tips to increase safety and prevent crime.

•Close all windows and lock vehicles whenever they are unattended.

•Do not leave valuable items in plain view inside locked or unlocked vehicles.

•Do not leave generators, bicycles, ice chests or other recreational items unsecured and outside at night or while away from the campsite.

•Keep all small children in sight while on the beach or in the campsite area.

•Report any illegal conduct or suspicious people to the local law enforcement agency.
