Horse spa offers kids' riding lessons

Goodenough Farms Horse Spa offers riding lessons for children from 3 to 5 p.m. after school at Castle Rock Ranch, intersection of Tierra Rejada and Highway 23, Moorpark.

Carpools will pick up the students from school and parents may pick up their children at the barns. Children may receive help with their homework while they wait for pick up.

Children age 10 and over and teens wishing to participate should wear long pants, have a boot or shoe with heel, and wear a helmet, which is required of all riders.

Lessons are available in Western and English riding, including the Olympic sport of eventing, which combines dressage, show jumping and cross country riding.

After the introductory lesson parents, children and their horse trainer can discuss lesson plans, carpool pick up options and desired riding style.

The first lesson is free. Lesson plans, including two after school or after school and Saturday lesson, are available for $100 per week and up, including lease of a lesson horse.

Some health plans offer reimbursement for exercise and training programs for youths who qualify. Participants should check with their health insurance plan.

To arrange an introductory lesson, call Lisa Hall at (818) 917-4586 or John Lockhart at (805) 524-2444 or e-mail info@goodenoughfarms.com.
