Los Angeles Police Department detectives released earlier this week a sketch and video images of the person they believe fatally stabbed a Camarillo woman in a Century City parking structure in late July.
Detective Salaam Abdul said at a press conference at LAPD headquarters in downtown Los Angeles Dec. 2 that police are asking for the public's help in identifying a third person involved in the murder of Pamela Fayed, 44.
Detectives described the person as a male about 5foot 10inches tall who weighs between 160 and 180 pounds. Abdul said he likely spends time in Ventura, Oxnard and Los Angeles.
The sketch, detectives said, has been compared to photos of known gang members in Oxnard and Ventura, but no positive identification has yet been made.
Investigators said they believe Fayed was the target of a murderforhire plot orchestrated by her husband, James Fayed, 45, who was arrested in September and charged with capital murder for his alleged involvement with his estranged wife's death.
The couple were in the midst of a contentious divorce at the time of the murder.
The unidentified man was seen in a video getting out of a red SUV to raise the barrier before exiting the parking structure at 1875 Century Park East on July 28 moments after Pamela Fayed was fatally stabbed. Police said the murderer was accompanied in the SUV by Jose Luis Moya, 47, who worked as a manager at James Fayed's Moorpark ranch.
The SUV was rented with a credit card that was reportedly issued to James Fayed and his Camarillo-based gold trading company.
Police said James Fayed paid Moya $25,000 to arrange the murder of Pamela Fayed and hired the unknown man to commit the crime. Moya was arrested Sept. 11 and charged with planning the murder.
James Fayed was initially arrested and taken into custody in August by FBI agents in connection with an ongoing federal investigation into the gold trading business he co-owned with his wife.
The pair filed for divorce in October 2007, according to court records, and letters between their attorneys show the two were arguing over bank accounts which allegedly totaled more than $12 million, as well custody of their 9-year-old daughter.
Court records show they were due to appear in court on July 29—the day after she was killed—to hear a judge's ruling that may have resulted in James Fayed's paying $1 million in child support and alimony.
In addition to the divorce, the pair were entangled in the federal investigation.
Pamela Fayed was killed after a three-hour meeting with her husband and their respective criminal defense attorneys, according to court records.
Pamela Fayed's family members also spoke at the press conference, including her 19-year-old daughter, Desiree Goudie, who tearfully asked for help finding her mother's killer.
"Help me and my family out and find out who did this to my mom," Goudie said. "Anything will help, please. I just want to know why and who did this."
In August, Goudie, a Camarillo High graduate, was named special administrator of her mother's affairs by a Ventura County Superior Court judge. The court order allowed detectives to question Pamela Fayed's divorce and criminal lawyers about conversations they had with her.
"When you lose a loved one to illness, you get to say goodbye," said Pamela Fayed's brother, Scott Goudie. "When you lose a loved one to murder, you don't get that, and you miss that person every day."
James Fayed and Moya are due back in court later this month.
